OPELIKA, AL (WSFA) -

A tire blowout appears to be the cause of a wreck that took the life of a woman Thursday morning along Interstate 85 near Opelika.

Lee County Coroner Bill Harris says Terrie Cherie Reed, 49, of Lafayette died at the scene.

Harris says the accident happened around 10:40 a.m. Wednesday in the northbound lanes. The blowout caused the woman to lose control of her car.

The vehicle entered the median near mile marker 62, struck the guard rail cables and rolled several times. Harris says it appears Reed was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by the Opelika Police Department with the assistance of the Lee County Coroner's Office.
