LIMESTONE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Limestone County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a shooting that left one person dead.

It happened before 6:30 p.m. Thursday on Red Bird Lane. The sheriff confirmed a shooting took place and that 28-year-old Jonathan Johnson was shot and taken to Athens Hospital, where he later died.

A neighbor reported hearing screaming and shouting before a shot rang out.

Investigators said it appears it was a family-related confrontation. They said Johnson's stepfather came to Johnson's home with another person to reclaim a vehicle Johnson had. Johnson pulled out a gun and during a struggle, the gun went off.

No arrests have been made at this time. Two people were taken in for questioning. The investigation is ongoing.
