COLBERT COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

The trial for the National Steel Car CEO indicted for securities fraud in Colbert County will begin Oct. 6.

Thursday, Colbert County circuit court Judge Jacqueline Hatcher moved the pending motions hearing for Gregory Aziz, originally scheduled for this coming Monday, back to May 8 at 1:30 p.m.; set the pre-trial for Sept. 29 at 9 a.m.; and set the trial to begin at 9a.m. on Oct. 6.

State prosecutors and lawyers for Aziz filed a joint motion requesting the continuance of the trial after prosecutors provided the defense with over 1 million pages of documents and a list of about 30 witnesses for the state's case.

Aziz was arrested Nov. 12 at Chicago Midway International Airport after being detained by local police. He was charged with 10 counts of securities fraud, accused of perpetrating a scheme to defraud the Retirement Systems of Alabama.
