RUSSELLVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Russellville Police have arrested a man who they say broke into a 12-year-old girl's bedroom and attempted to rape her.

It happened at a home on the 300 block of Tuscaloosa Street just after 12:30 a.m. Friday. Police said Gaspar Perez-Bartolo broke entered the girl's bedroom through a window, held a hand over her mouth, and ordered her to undress.

The mother of the girl woke up during the commotion and began beating on the bedroom door, causing Perez-Bartolo to flee through the window he came in through.

"She was unharmed, just shook up," said Lt. Scotty Lowery. "She was very shook up actually.  I mean to be 12-years-old and to awake up and to have somebody standing over your bed is a traumatic experience."

Lowery said that Bartolo is an acquaintance of the adult who lived in the home.

Investigators said Perez-Bartolo was arrested around 2:30 p.m. Friday afternoon in Russellville.

He is being held under a $150,000 bond.
