Huntsville Police suspended the city liquor license for the Benchwarmer club following a weekend shooting.

Investigators said a juvenile shot five people inside the business Saturday night. The suspect was charged with 5 counts of assault. Huntsville Police did not release the 15-year-old suspect's name. Investigators said the shooter has a prior history of arrests.

Two of the victims are juveniles. The adult victims are identified as Jordan Darell Baker, John Wesley Brewer, and Craig Allen Shelnut. Police say none of the injuries are life threatening.

"One of the people was a security guard that tried to break up the fight and ended up being shot," said Huntsville Police Chief Lewis Morris. "That is a very dangerous situation."

City leaders said Benchwarmer is classified as a lounge with an entertainment license. The liquor license requires patrons to be 19 years of age or older to enter. Huntsville Police said several juveniles were inside when the shooting happened.

Monday, Chief Morris suspended the club's city liquor license. Investigators said the owner voluntarily surrendered his license when contacted by police.

"It's in the best interest and public safety of the city to suspend that license and close that club," Morris said.

He noted Benchwarmer has been the center of several investigations before, with three shootings in 2012 alone, including one unsolved murder.

The Alabama Beverage Control Board is assisting Huntsville Police with the investigation.
