ALABAMA (WAFF) -

Alabama's 2014 regular legislative session will begin at noon on Tuesday.

The session will certainly cover the budget. When it comes to funding, Medicaid is on the list. Lawmakers will have to figure out how the state can adequately fund Medicaid. As the economy got worse, the Medicaid rolls skyrocketed, and now the state has to rearrange its pocketbook once again to figure out how to pay for it.

The Medicaid agency projects it may need as much as $85 million dollars to accomplish everything that's federally required.

"So we're looking for anywhere, $75 to $100 million between revenues and true needed increases in state government," State Senator Arthur Orr said. "So that's kind of the chasm we're going to be dealing with in the fiscal 15 budget."

Last year, lawmakers approved measures to allow them to move money around that had previously been earmarked. That kind of creativity will be necessary again in order to avoid raising taxes or borrowing more money.
