SLOCOMB, AL (WSFA) -

The Slocomb Police Department is charging a man with attempted murder after the violent assault of a woman on January 8.

Tony Martin Williams is accused of violently beating the woman he lived with on South Ball Street while their child was present.

The investigation started after a call was placed to police requesting EMS lifting assistance for a person in need of transport to an emergency room. EMS officials who responded to the scene were told the victim's injuries came from falling down the doorsteps of the home.

A medical observation showed that the victim's injuries were not consistent with a fall and police were called regarding the injuries.

The investigation indicates that Williams violently assaulted the woman late the evening before and into the early morning hours of the next day. He was arrested and taken to the Geneva County Jail.

Because a child was present, the Geneva County Department of Human Resources was notified and took measures to protect the minor.

No further details have been released pending a completed investigation.
