FRANKLIN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A multiple agency raid on a Franklin Co. insurance office led to the arrest of the business owner on charges involving moonshine.

Kirk Berryman Insurance Agency was raided Thursday morning in Russellville. During the raid, authorities arrested the business owner, Kirk Berryman, after discovering moonshine and moonshine paraphernalia in Berryman's truck.

Authorities raided the insurance office after more than a half-dozen people claimed they paid Berryman for their policies only to find out their policies were not renewed.

Berryman was charged with unexplained possession of part of a whiskey still and possession of untaxed alcohol by ABC agents.

Sheriff Shannon Oliver said much of the day was spent seizing files. "All the insurance files, active and inactive, to basically follow up and see what has been paid and what hasn't, who is active and who is not," he said.

The sheriff also said discrepancies in insurance policies could potentially ruin someone's life if they think they are covered, later to find out they are not. "Those are very high investments they make and if something happened, it would basically ruin them financially for the rest of their life," he said.

Oliver suggests checking your insurance policy if you did business with the company. If you see anything out of the ordinary, you are asked to contact the Sheriff's Department.

Law enforcement officials said the case is still under investigation.
