BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

A school bus en route to Hueytown High School was involved in an accident on Friday morning, according to Jefferson County School officials.

JefCoEd spokesperson Nez Calhoun says the bus was stopped at a light on Allison Bonnet Drive after exiting I-59. The bus struck a van after the van allegedly ran the red light. The van's driver and one student were taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

The remaining students were taken to school via transfer bus. Paramedics and nurses are on hand. The principal supervised the students getting breakfast and any medical exams they needed.

In related news, Hueytown High and Middle Schools were evacuated later on Friday morning after receiving a bomb threat.
