DEMOPOLIS, AL (WSFA) -

The city attorney for Demopolis is said to be in "stable" condition at an area hospital after being found shot in the chest in his office Friday morning.

Officials say Bill Poole's secretary found him when she came into work.

The Demopolis Times reports that the officers with the Demopolis Police Department, as well as Demopolis Fire and Rescue, responded to Poole's office around 7:30 a.m.

Poole was in surgery Friday and his condition remains stable. Authorities believe he will survive.

Investigators are not releasing any details about the case and will not say if there are any suspects or a motive.

Poole has held the position of city attorney since 2011. He is the father or Alabama State Representative Bill Poole of Tuscaloosa.
