MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

President Barack Obama is planning to appoint Alabama State University President-Elect Gwendolyn Boyd to his Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for African Americans.

Boyd's appointment to the commission is one of 15 the president is planning, according to the White House.

"These fine public servants bring both a depth of experience and tremendous dedication to their new roles," President Obama said in a White House statement. "Our nation will be well-served by these men and women, and I look forward to working with them in the months and years to come."

Boyd was voted as the first female president of Alabama State University on Dec. 20, 2013. She will earn $300,000 per year in that role.
