University of Alabama freshman cornerback Tony Brown has been arrested after police say he refused to obey a police officer, resisted arrest and yelled profanities at the officer.
Tuscaloosa police say they got a call about a loud party with underage drinkers at Campus Way Apartments on Sunday morning. When they arrived, they encountered 22-year-old Chavis Taylor. Police say they arrested Taylor for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
While they were walking Taylor to the car, a large crowd of roughly 40 people followed and gathered around the officers. Officers told the crowd multiple times to move on, and specifically warned Tony Brown to back up and leave the parking lot.
Police say Brown refused orders to back away and yelled profanities at officers. Officers say they used pepper spray on Brown and pinned him to the ground. Brown and Chavis Taylor were taken to the Tuscaloosa County Jail. They are each being held on a $1,500 bond.
Brown is a freshman from Beaumont, Texas who enrolled at the University of Alabama 10 days ago. Several football recruiting websites have him ranked as the number two cornerback in the nation.
Tuscaloosa News is reporting Coach Saban is aware of the arrest and will address the situation once he has reviewed all of the information.
