BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Bill Clark, the current head coach at Jacksonville State University, has accepted the head football coaching position at UAB, FOX6 News confirmed Tuesday.

Clark went 11-4 with JSU in 2013. He spent five years as the defense coordinator at the University of South Alabama and won two state championships while coaching at Prattville High School.

Clark notified his athletic director at JSU on Tuesday that he has accepted the UAB position. His buyout was $400,000 and his salary at JSU was $175,000.

UAB's former head coach Garrick McGee left the Blazers to become the offensive coordinator at Louisville under Bobby Petrino.

A press conference to formally introduce UAB's new coach will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m.

JSU issued the following statement on Tuesday afternoon about Clark's resignation:

Dr. William A. Meehan, President:

"We're very proud for Bill and the success that he had at Jacksonville State. He is a JSU grad and we are excited about his personal success and we are grateful for the success he brought to the Gamecocks this year."

Warren Koegel, Athletics Director:

"Coach Bill Clark informed me this afternoon that he has accepted another job. I want to thank Coach Clark for the last 13 months of service to Jacksonville State University as our head football coach, and all the things the team was able to accomplish under his leadership."

"I have always been proud to say honesty, respect, loyalty, trust and integrity are the way we run our athletic department at Jacksonville State University. Loyalty to the players and team, honesty and respect are the upmost importance to me, my staff, our Board of Trustees and to our president, Dr. Bill Meehan."

"We have great respect for our team and our number one concern is for this team's well-being and their success as college student-athletes. We care about them as people, as students and as football players. I pledge to them that we will make a quick decision to find an outstanding coach who will continue to lead them to success in all areas of college life."

FOX6 News sports anchor Rick Karle will have more on Clark's move to UAB tonight starting at 5 p.m. You can watch online at www.FoxAlabamaLive.com and on the WBRC news app for mobile devices.
