Blasting to begin under U.S. Hwy 42 Friday January 24

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The Ohio River Bridges East End and Downtown Crossings have announced blasting will begin underneath U.S. Hwy 42 in Prospect.

Starting Friday, January 24, underground tunnel blasting in the east end of Louisville near the intersection of U.S. 42 and KY 841 will occur Monday through Saturday during morning and afternoon hours without traffic closures. The underground tunnel blasts will occur between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m., and again between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. daily.

The noise from blasts may be noticeable, but pose no risk to the traveling public and local residents. Construction for the underground tunnel requires 24-hour work activities Monday through Saturday, and will continue throughout 2014.

The blasting that has been occurring since June 2013 is surface blasting, which does require traffic stops, and which will continue during most weekdays. Traffic stops during the blasts will occur on KY 841 between Wolf Pen Branch Road and U.S. 42, and on U.S. 42 between Wolf Pen Branch Road and Bridgepointe Boulevard.

In the event of unfavorable weather or other unforeseen activities, blast times may occasionally change.
