TROY, AL (WSFA) -

Troy University has hired Alabama coaching veteran Al Pogue as its cornerbacks coach, head coach Larry Blakeney announced Thursday.

Pogue has spent the last three years at Auburn University and was most recently the university's director of high school relations. Before arriving at Auburn, Pogue spent 13 years as a high school coach in Alabama, including at Carver High School, St. Jude High School and Sidney Lanier High School.

"I've known Al for nearly 10 years and the main thing I like about him is that he's been at some good places, but he's been a high school head coach at three different schools," Blakeney said, according to a news release. "(Auburn head coach) Gus (Malzahn) had nothing but high praise for him. Al is well thought of by many people for his character and his ability to coach football."

Pogue was also a three-year starter at defensive back for Alabama State University.
