BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Birmingham police say a seven-year-old boy who fell five stories from a condominium balcony Friday morning is in stable condition.

Officers responded to the Regency Crown Condominiums on Beacon Parkway East after getting a call about a child falling from the building. The call came in around 11 a.m.

BPD Sgt. Johnny Williams said the child was taken to Children's of Alabama hospital. Crews at the hospital say the child is still alive and they are working to treat his injuries.

Harold Stewart, on the board of directors for Regency Crown Management, issued the following statement about the incident:

"At approximately 10:30 a.m. a seven-year-old boy fell from the balcony of his family's condo on the fifth floor. He was discovered by a male employee of the condominium association. Emergency vehicles were called to the scene and the child was taken to Children's Hospital. His mother is with him and we have no other details at this time," Stewart said.

The child's name has not been released.

A resident of the condos said the boy and his mother lived at the condo for the past two to three years, and they don't have family in town. She said getting news like this "jars the soul." She described the boy as a "very lively, happy-go-lucky boy" who liked to play with his best friend, a stuffed frog. The stuffed animal was with the child when he was discovered on the ground and is with him now at the hospital.
