HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

One person has died following a Saturday morning wreck on Governors Drive.

The wreck happened around 9 a.m. at the corner of Harvard Road and Governors Drive. Only one vehicle was involved in the crash. Huntsville police, firefighters and HEMSI responded to the scene.

Authorities said 78-year-old Shelby Hill died during the crash. His wife, Mildred Hill, was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators said the vehicle crossed the center line of the road and struck a light pole.

Governors Drive between Sewanee Road and Gallatin Street was closed as emergency crews responded to the wreck. Traffic had to be rerouted down side streets.

Authorities continue to investigate.
