Montgomery Biscuits hire new manager

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The Montgomery Biscuits will be led by a new manager for the first time in eight years.

The Double-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays have hired Brady Williams as the new skipper for the Biscuits. Williams will be replacing Billy Gardner Jr., who left the Biscuits for a job within the Washington Nationals organization. Williams was the manager of the Rays' High-A affiliate, the Charlotte Stone Crabs, for the 2013 season leading them to a 67-65 record.

Williams is the third manager in the Biscuits program since its start in 2004. Charlie Montoyo managed the team for three years, until he was promoted to the Rays' Triple-A affiliate, the Durham Bulls. After the departure of Montoyo, the Biscuits hired Gardner who was the longest tenured manager in the Southern League as well as having the most wins as a manager in Biscuits history.

The Biscuits will open their season on Thursday, April 3 against the Birmingham Barons at Riverwalk Stadium.
