Wounded vet stars at Obama State of Union address

PHOENIX (AP) -

For a few moments, there were no politics in the State of the Union address. It was just Sgt. 1st Class Cory Remsburg, a wounded Army Ranger, up there in the balcony overlooking the House chamber.

President Barack Obama took the moment Tuesday night to draw attention to the stories of wounded veterans who try each day to rebuild bodies and minds torn apart by war. Obama spoke of Remsburg's will and fight to recover after being injured in a roadside bomb blast in Afghanistan in 2009.

He drew a nearly two-minute standing ovation from the crowd of politicians and dignitaries as he stood with his father's help and flashed a thumbs-up.

It was a scene that became one of the most emotional moments in presidential speeches in decades.

Graham preached the gospel to millions over seven decades. Wherever he went, he drew large crowds, and his trips to Alabama during the racially fraught times of the 1960s were no exception.
