PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Three people were arrested Wednesday at two Phoenix-area businesses in connection with a continued crackdown on workplace ID theft, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said.

Detectives in MCSO's Criminal Employment Unit arrested Jose Nieves Gonzalez-Rojo, 34, on suspicion of using stolen identification to get employment at a Chili's restaurant in Mesa. The suspect admitted that he was in the country illegally, MCSO said.

The arrest stems from an investigation begun last August when the victim's mother, a local resident, was denied benefits, including food stamps. The Arizona Department of Economic Security told her that her household income was too high, MCSO said.

The income examined was that of Gonzalez-Rojo, detectives said. Gonzalez-Rojo was working under the victim's name, MCSO said.

Elsewhere, two other arrests were made Wednesday at Arizona Shower Door at 2801 W. Indian School Rd. in Phoenix. The arrests follow a four-month investigation that revealed that the Social Security numbers used by the suspects did not match their names, MCSO said.

Osiel Betran Barraza, 29, and Gloria Munoz Neri, 43, were taken into custody.
