GONZALES, LA (WAFB) -

Applications are being accepted for the Louisiana Sheriff's Scholarship Program. The program will provide assistance to Louisiana students to help offset the rising costs of tuition and other educated-related expenses.

In all, 64 scholarships in the amount of $500 will be awarded, one from each parish.

To apply, applicants must be full-time undergraduate students, permanent residents of the state and the scholarship must be used at a college or university in the state.

"Louisiana Sheriff's are pleased with the program's ability to bring scholarships to Louisiana students bound for higher education. To continue to do so, and fund other important projects and initiatives, continued support of the honorary membership program is essential," says Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeff Wiley.

Applications have been distributed to high school counselors. They are also available at the Ascension Sheriff's office in Donaldsonville and Gonzales.
