BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The LHSAA voted Thursday to bring back the split playoff format for the 2014 football season.

There will be nine state championships for a second straight year as select and non-select schools will separate during the playoffs.

In total there were 152 votes for the new format and only 67 votes against. The 4A and 5A votes were much closer than some of the smaller classifications, but in the end all five of the classifications voted for the split.

Also starting in 2015, schools from Class C through 1A can elect to play 8-man football, if they wish.

Below is a breakdown of how each class voted on the split format:
1A: 24-8
2A: 34-7
3A: 36-12
4A: 25-16
5A: 33-24
