PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A standoff between a man and Phoenix police and SWAT officers came to a peaceful end early Friday morning with the arrest of a suspect.

The impasse began about 9:30 p.m. Thursday when a man and his ex-girlfriend were arguing in the courtyard of the Estancia De Sol Apartments near 40th Avenue and Camelback Road, said Phoenix police Sgt. Steve Martos.

At one point, the man pulled a gun and the woman ran away while the suspect ran into a vacant apartment at the complex, Martos said, who added neither lived at the complex.

Witnesses directed police to the apartment into which the man ran, and when officers went in, he pointed the gun at them, Martos said.

Several apartments were immediately evacuated, Martos said.

The suspect threatened to kill himself and harm officers throughout the nearly eight-hour standoff, but Martos credited a department negotiator with talking the man out peacefully just after 5 a.m. Friday.

No one was hurt.

Officers located a pistol pellet gun believed to be used against the officer.

Wednesday Peralta-Martinez, 39, was arrested on one count of aggravated assault, one count of criminal damage and one count of aggravated assault on a police officer.

Martos said Marintez has a criminal record.
