GLENDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

Authorities are investigating the theft of cookie money at a Girl Scouts booth in Glendale on Friday night.

The Arizona Cactus-Pine Council said the money was in a bag that was left unattended for a brief time while the girls and mothers packed up the booth.

While the exact amount of money was stolen was not immediately known, the council said it believes a few hundred dollars disappeared.

The troop has already received an outpouring of sympathy and offers to replace the money.

"The safety of our girls and parents is our utmost priority," the council said in a statement. "No amount of cash can replace security, and we continue to encourage all Girl Scout families to follow our safety checkpoint procedures, to minimize risk and make participation in the cookie program enjoyable."

No one was hurt.
