New ASU president celebrates Founders' Week by reading to schoolchildren

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Alabama State University's new President, Gwendolyn Boyd, celebrated the University's Founders' Week by reading to a class of schoolchildren Monday morning.

President Boyd visited the children of Montgomery Highland Avenue Elementary School. She was joined by a myriad of ASU students, faculty and staff who are doing the same thing at five other Montgomery Schools. They also visited a school in Marion, where the university was founded in 1867.

Monday's reading is all part of ASU's Community Day of Service, which is a part of a weeklong Founders' Week.

It's a way for the school to give back to the people of the community.
