ATHENS, AL (WAFF) -

Limestone County Narcotics Investigators arrested two people on Tuesday after authorities said they tried to get an illegal substance into the Limestone County Jail.

Investigators said a letter was sent to an inmate on Feb. 4 that contained a Suboxone strip. Suboxone, also known as Butrans, is a narcotic used to treat chronic pain.

The jail staff indicated that the inmate and his wife had been discussing a plan to get the drug into the jail in an envelope.

Upon searching the inmate's mail, investigators said the substance was found.

Inmate Justin Swanner was arrested and charged with attempting to commit promoting prison contraband. His wife, Angela Nicole Barron Swanner, was arrested and charged with promoting prison contraband and distribution of a controlled substance.
