JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

A Center Point man in possession of more than 200 doses of heroin, plus other drugs and a handgun, was taken into custody on Tuesday.

Arthur Ross, 26, faces multiple drug-related charges after attempting to run from Jefferson County deputies when getting pulled over Tuesday afternoon.

Deputies stopped a suspicious vehicle in the 500 block of 20th Avenue NE around 2 p.m. Feb. 4, Chief Deputy Randy Christian said. Ross fled from the car, but was caught after a short chase on foot.

Ross was found with 210 dose units of heroin, diluadid tablets, Xanax tablets, the drug "Molle" and the prescription drug suboxone, Christian said. He was also armed with a .380 semi-automatic handgun.

Ross is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on charges of trafficking heroin and four counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance. His bond totals $85,000.

Deputies also arrested the driver of the vehicle that was pulled over, 32-year-old Antonio Purdom. He was found in possession of marijuana, prescription cough syrup and scales and had several outstanding warrants, according to Christian.

Purdom is charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance. He's in the Jefferson County Jail on a $36,000 bond.
