DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) -

The Houston Co. Sheriff's Department is launching an investigation into an attempted jail break. It's believed more than one person was involved.

Authorities says a group of people tried to break out particular inmates, but Sheriff Andy Hughes could not comment on specific inmates or charges.

Hughes said Thursday that the suspects used different types of tools in their unsuccessful attempt, though he declined to add any specific details.

Authorities were not aware of the situation until well after the group was gone.

Hughes say authorities discovered the attempt around 6 a.m. Thursday, adding that there were no security breaches.

Deputies initiated an inmate count following the discovery and everyone was accounted for.

Authorities have collected some evidence and say they continue their search for the suspects.
