ATHENS, AL (WAFF) -

High school students competed in a skills competition Saturday at the Limestone Career Technical Center.

There were several categories, including auto collision repair, computer maintenance technology and cosmetology.

The school invited the public to see what they have to offer. That includes training for jobs after high school and programs geared towards getting students ready for college.

"We have a lot of students that go on to get their associates degree at Calhoun," said Interim Director Vince Green. "And we have a lot of students like in the pre-engineering class, hopefully - we just got that started this year - that will go on to major universities and get degrees in chemical engineering, electrical engineering."

The winners of Saturday's competition would move on to a state competition, and then on to nationals. The Career Tech Center is adding several more courses, including public safety, in the near future.
