TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -
A court appearance for a couple accused of holding three sisters captive in a midtown Tucson has been postponed.
Sophia and Fernando Richter were scheduled to be in Pima County Superior Court Monday morning for a pre-trial conference, but it was rescheduled because the prosecutor is ill.
The new date is Feb. 18.
In January the couple also appeared in court for a status conference. During that hearing prosecutors said they are not cutting a plea deal. The judge on the case also issued a gag order barring out-of-court commentary by people involved in the case.
Tucson Police say the two kept Sophia's three daughters in dungeon-like isolation and confinement for up to two years.
This case came to light after two of the younger girls escaped from the midtown home, getting help from a neighbor.
The Richters are charged with kidnapping and child abuse in Pima County, and face similar charges in Pinal County. The couple has pleaded not guilty to the charges in Pima County.
