WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The resources and services provided by many local groups was the main focus for the latest community conversation on fighting gun and gang violence.

Members of the community have met several times in the past three months, working to solve the on-going gang situation in New Hanover County. Non-profit organizations filled DC Virgo Monday night to show the community what types of resources are available to help them.

The president of United Way of the Cape Fear Area said many families aren't aware of what's available to them. Chris Nelson said many of the groups at the gang forum set-up shop because they wanted to get the word out.

"Agencies, a lot of them, wanted to come without even being asked. Just to show folks the kinds of resources are available to them when all you have to do is ask," Nelson said.

Nelson said these type of events are important in connecting area help groups with the communities they serve.
