Lane shifts on I-85 Exit 4 off ramp rescheduled for Feb. 19

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Weather permitting, traffic will be shifted right to the newly constructed lanes on the I-85 North Exit 4 ramp to Perry Hill Road on Wednesday, Feb 19. The shift will help with construction to the new entrance ramp loop for I-85 North that is projected to help ease congestion on Perry Hill Road.

The Alabama Department of Transportation is warning motorist to be aware of new changes when using the ramp. All lanes will now stop at the red light instead of proceeding in a "keep moving" lane. The inside right turn lane is dedicated to Carmichael Road traffic. The outside turn lane is dedicated to Perry Hill Road South traffic. The two left turn lanes will be used to turn on to Perry Hill Road North. Right turn on red will still be permitted.

The work zone speed limit on the ramp is 25 mph. The lane shift will not affect I-85 thru traffic.

Motorist are encouraged to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in the area.

The $8.4 million interchange improvement project on I-85 at Perry Hill Road will include bridge widening, additional lanes and new traffic signals. The project, which began in March 2013, is estimated to be completed by November 2014. ALDOT thanks motorist for their patience during this construction to improve Alabama's roadways.
