Round 2 of this week's winter storms has not hit Alabama too hard on Wednesday, but the Fox6 StormWarn team says that doesn't mean it's time to relax. Most of the possible winter activity on Wednesday is expected to hit later in the day.

Fox6 Chief Meteorologist J-P Dice issued this timeline on Wednesday based on forecast models:

Noon-5pm: Initially, we will see some freezing rain and sleet. Falling temperatures with transition to snow by mid-afternoon in East Alabama. Heavy wet snow possible. We will see some accumulations on grassy areas and rooftops. Most of the snow will begin in Cherokee, Etowah, and Calhoun Counties.

5pm-10pm: Snow will begin to extend westward toward I-65. We will generally see accumulations around the Birmingham area between 1-2" Heavier accumulations will be across St. Clair, Calhoun, Talladega, Etowah, Cherokee, and Cleburne Counties. I still think 2-4" of snowfall is possible somewhere around Gadsden or Centre.

Overnight: Snow will end and temperatures will drop to around 29. This will mean some slick roads through at least 10am Thursday. Be careful driving on bridges, overpasses, and other elevated surfaces.

The heaviest snowfall is expected between 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Drivers are urged to play it safe and try to be off the roads by 3 p.m. On Thursday morning, caution should be exercised due to the possible development of icy patches on roads. The Winter Storm Warning will be in effect until Thursday at 6 a.m.
