PINSON, AL (WBRC) -

FOX6 News was invited to a very special birthday party Monday night.

Thursday nights you will find Dolores Cornelius lacing up, grabbing her ball, and hitting the floor at Super Bowl in Pinson.

"It's my love," Cornelius described.

So when her daughter asked her how she wanted to celebrate her 90th birthday, she said bowling. Cornelius was first introduced to the sport more than 40 years ago.

"My husband bowled in a league and he wanted me to bowl with him," Cornelius added.

She's been a bowler ever since.

"I've gotten a lot of trophies for bowling!" she said.

But being able to play the sport she loves hasn't always come easy. She underwent open-heart surgery, battled cancer, and last year she had another major health scare. But she wasn't going to let anything stop her from getting back into the swing of things.

"After she had her stroke she was worried she wasn't going to be able to bowl anymore but she came back and started slow and she's right back into it," her daughter Ann Jones added.

Now, Dolores bowls on the seniors league and she may not be the all-star she once was but, she can still roll a strike, and she's still as competitive as they come.

"I don't like to lose," Dolores said.

Win or lose, Dolores says it's her teammates that keep her coming back and it's her trips to the bowling alley that keep her going.

"I believe it keeps me going, yes. I don't get down in the dumps when I bowl," she said.
