CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
Clarksville police say employees of a smoke shop that was robbed at gunpoint last week offer a textbook case of what to do if the worst happens.
They kept their cool, secretly notified police and had security cameras rolling as the crime unfolded.
Police received a silent alarm from Rony's Smoke Shop on North Second Street the evening of Feb. 12.
When officers arrived, two victims reported a man had come into the store with a shotgun, stole more than $400 from the register and grabbed several packs of cigarettes.
A witness then told officers she saw a man wearing a black hoodie change his pants behind Kelly's Big Burger, then run off carrying a black backpack.
Officers identified that man as Fields, and spotted him with a backpack next door at the Greyhound bus station.
A worker Kelly's Big Burger told officers Fields returned and went into the bathroom with the backpack, then came back out without the bag.
When police checked the restroom, they found the bag filled with cigarettes.
When Mousa Jfouf moved with his family from Jordan to Clarksville three years ago to pursue the American dream, this wasn't exactly what he had in mind.
The store owner's son was working the cash register at Rony's Smoke Shop when two masked men walked through the door and pointed a shotgun at his face.
What the two robbers didn't know is that the business was ready for them, thanks to a silent panic button that immediately alerted police.
The store's surveillance cameras also captured the evidence, and the two men did exactly as they were told, something police say is always best.
Thanks to the help of witnesses, officers caught the teens they think were responsible in the crime. A police dog was able to locate the sawed-off shotgun on Wilmac Street.
Shonquiel Fields is charged with robbery and using a firearm in the commission of a felony, and Joseph Watkins is charged with criminal responsibility for conduct of another.
Both were booked into the Montgomery County Jail.
