HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

What does it take to host the Olympics? That's what students learning Russian at Huntsville's Academy for Science and Foreign Language set to find out Wednesday morning.

The cultural and physical 6,000-mile gap between a Russian and American school closed with the mere click of a computer mouse.

Huntsville's ASFL and Sochi's Gymnasium #8 School started a partnership three years ago, when Sochi representatives came to the Rocket City to learn more about our way of life and our schools. Wednesday, Huntsville students set out to learn more about Sochi's schools and how students there like being on the world's stage, working at and hosting the Olympics.

Re-connecting the schools was important to Huntsville's Russian language teacher, Eugene Fedoseyev, who has worked hard to maintain a relationship between the two schools. The Olympic Games gave him the perfect platform.

"I'm hoping our Sochi friends will open the eyes of my kids to how tremendous this thing is. It is a celebration, a celebration of sports and of the world spirit," Fedoseyev said.
