SUMTER COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

Authorities arrested a New Hampshire couple on Interstate 95 Wednesday after sheriff's deputies found drugs, over $12,000 in cash and bomb making materials in their car in Sumter County.

Dean V. Smoronk, 52, and Christina M. Cuozzo, 45, were stopped on I-95 near mile marker 135 after their car pulled into the lane of a Sumter County deputy and almost side swiped the cruiser, Sheriff Anthony Dennis said.

During the stop, a K-9 unit was called and suspected methamphetamine was found in Cuozzo's purse and a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine was found inside a fake energy drink along with a small amount of marijuana, pills and an unknown white powder inside a black computer bag, Dennis said.

Dennis said an open bottle of Crown Royal was also found under the driver's seat and $12,529 in cash was found in some luggage and inside Cuozzo's purse.

While searching inside the vehicle, authorities also found a brown box with a plumber's putty container with gun powder and steel shot from cut open shotgun shells and several bomb making materials, Dennis said.

The interstate was shut down for a brief period in order to safely remove the materials from the car.

Smoronk and Cuozzo are facing several charges including possession of bomb making materials, possession of a controlled substance and trafficking methamphetamine.

They are currently being held at the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center.

More charges are expected, Dennis said.
