RPD on triple shooting: 'We don't stand for it'

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

RPD and Henrico Police were out in force on Government Road Wednesday night. This comes in direct response to a triple shooting at Fine Food store. One of the victim's is a 7-year-old boy.

"We haven't seen this kind of violence in that area," said Lt. Daniel Minton with the Richmond Police Department. "That's why we are concerned."

Dozens of police reported for duty outside Fine Food store Wednesday night. It was the scene of a triple shooting Tuesday night.

"The community doesn't stand for it," said Lt. Minton. "We don't stand for it. It's not going to happen."

It was a directed show of force after gunfire left three people, including a 7-year-old boy, in the hospital.

"Our hearts go out to the family," said Lt. Minton. "Especially to the family of the 7-year-old boy."

Crime knows no boundaries. This incident happened at the Henrico/ Richmond city line. Both jurisdictions are now patrolling and working together to solve the case.

"We are out there in force," said Lt. Minton.

The idea is to send a message.

"You can't commit this kind of crime without there being some kind of punishment for it," said Lt. Minton.

Police say they have been flooded with tips.

"We've made a lot of progress on the case," said Lt. Minton. "But we want to reassure citizens that we are out there."

Lt. Minton admits this case hits close to home.

"Many of us have kids and we take it personal when something like this happens in our neighborhood," said Lt. Minton. "The community is an extension of the police department's family."

Police say all three victims are expected to recover. The two adult victims are in their 20s. Police will only say they are looking for two suspects.
