LSU has a young basketball team and two freshmen stepped up in helping the Tigers to shoot down Mississippi State. Jarell Martin and Jordan Mickey combined for 39 points.
Martin connected on 8-of-11 shots from the field, scored a season-high 20 points and pulled down eight rebounds.
Mickey bagged 19 points, Shavon Coleman added 18 points, Andre Stringer drilled 14 and Anthony Hickey scored 13 points to lead the Tigers to a sixth straight SEC win on the home court.
Sophomore Craig Sword netted 20 of his career-high 33 points in the second half. Gavin Ware scored 10 points and 11 rebounds but 16 turnovers led to 20 points for LSU.
The Tigers exploded to a 24-4 lead and trailed 42-31 at the half. A number of reserves were forced into the lineup due to foul trouble.
MSU head coach Rick Ray said,"We have to look at how we are defending people. We have way too much foul trouble. We have to guard without fouling. I think guys are moving their feet well. We were not having a lot of fouls called early in league play so we just have to look at what we are doing."
LSU (16-9, 7-6)was happy to be at home after having their problems racking up games under the win column on the road.
Mississippi State falls to 13-13 overall and 3 and 10 in Southeastern Conference play.
