TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

It's safe to say conditions are soggy in Toledo, with heavy rain falling and plenty of snow melting. It's caused massive street and basement flooding citywide.

At a home along Jackman Road, a band rehearsal was cut short when water started coming into the basement.

"It was a buried drain, buried in snow and ice. We had to dig it out, how we noticed it when the basement started to flood," said Brian Bedee, who helped his friend dig out a couple of drainage inlets near his home, which were covered with ice and snow. "So it was a mad dash: grab shovels and pick axes, tear it up, free it up so the water could drain."

Dave Pratt, Toledo Commissioner of Sewer and Drainage Services, says he appreciates any assistance to help clear inlets to improve drainage along city streets.

"I want to say, 'thank you,' because I've seen many homeowners out there clearing the street inlets where there may have been ice build-up from the snow. We appreciate that. We've had crews out doing that," said Pratt.

Pratt says even if a street inlet is clear, drainage could be hampered due to ice clogging up sewer and storm waterlines.
