JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

A man interrupted a burglary in his neighborhood and kept the suspect from escaping until deputies could get to the scene in north Jefferson County.

Deputies got a call about a burglary in progress at a home in the 3600 block of H and F Drive in the Bradford community around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

While on their way, they learned a neighbor was blocking the suspect's car in the driveway and keeping him at the scene.

The neighbor told deputies he spotted a vehicle he didn't recognize in his neighbor's driveway, so he called the homeowner who confirmed that no one should be at the house at that time. The neighbor then notified the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and blocked the suspect's car in the driveway with his own vehicle.

The suspect ran from behind the home and tried to escape, but the neighbor took his keys from him, ordered him to get out of the car and sit on the ground, Chief Deputy Randy Christian said

The suspect was still sitting on the ground when deputies got to the scene. He admitted to breaking into a shed behind the house and stealing a chainsaw, air gun, nail gun and jig saw. Those items were returned to the homeowner.

Deputies identified the suspect as Christopher Dewayne Bryant, a 19-year-old from Oneonta. He was charged with third degree burglary and second degree theft of property. He is in the Jefferson County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
