PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) -
The City of Prattville held an event Thursday to observe Arbor Day.
The event took place outside of the Prattaugan Museum located on E. Main Street. The Alabama Forestry Commission provided seedlings for many types of trees including oaks, Crepe Myrtles, Japanese maples and many more.
Mayor Bill Gillespie says that Arbor Day is one of the more forgotten holidays, and that it needs to be honored.
"You don't really see a lot of the magnolias because of the size of yards," Gillespie said. "So it's important the city take a good step forward so we can make certain our trees are the renewable resource."
The United States celebrates Arbor Day in April, but it is celebrated in Alabama during the last full week of February.
