MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Even more changes are on the way for Downtown Montgomery's Dexter Avenue.

Foshee Management Company announced plans Friday to turn lower Dexter Avenue into the "Market District."

The Market District will include more than 100 loft apartments and space for more than 20 retails stores and restaurants, according to Foshee.

Renovations will start on four buildings along the south side of Dexter Avenue in the coming months. The upper floors will be converted into loft apartments and the first floor and basement will be available for commercial tenants.

The company plans to eventually develop 14 buildings in the district.

Foshee also says lower Dexter Avenue, Perry Street to Commerce Street, will be closed to vehicle on weekends, which will allow for festivals, markets and street vendors.
