MONTGOMERY CO., AL (WSFA) -

Alabama State Troopers are confirming a second child's death related to a weekend crash on Interstate 85.

Authorities say 2-year-old Heaven Brooks, of Lanett, died two days after being critically injured in the February 23 crash. The child, along with her mother, 29-year-old Joy Brooks, was transported to Baptist Medical Center South.

The child was then transported to Children's Hospital in Birmingham where she died from her injuries just before noon on Feb. 25.

Also killed in the wreck was 11-year-old Naycha Night, a student at Goodwyn Middle School.

The crash occurred around 12:17 p.m. on I-85 southbound near the Waugh exit. 35-year old Lametric Willetta Maddox was injured when the 2005 Toyota Corolla she was driving collided with Joy Brooks' 2003 Jeep Liberty.

Naycha Night was a passenger in Maddox's vehicle. A second passenger in Maddox's vehicle 12-year-old Charletta Griffen, also from Montgomery, was transported to Children's Hospital in Birmingham for treatment of her injuries.

An investigation is ongoing into the crash's cause, but authorities say Heaven Brooks was not in a child-restraint system at the time of the crash.
