PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) -

Phenix City Intermediate School is offering grief counseling for students and faculty affected by Friday's tragic murder-suicide in Columbus.

At this time, we're told there's not an overwhelming need for the service but additional counselors throughout the district are available if the need increases.

Grief experts tell News Leader 9 the shooting of Tonya Moses-Charles will leave a mark on those who knew her and for those who witnessed the crime.

"That is a horrible trauma," said counselor Courtney Loving. "So before you go to the grief, you are probably gonna have to deal with some major traumatic incident. Lots of times people will, especially in our culture, try to move on quickly...oh you'll get over it, you know, just take some time and get past it. So I really encourage people to take time and space to grieve."

Moses-Charles' children attended school in Phenix City. Police say her estranged husband killed her and then took his own life.

Courtney Loving says talking about the incident and dealing with anger, confusion and other emotions can help relatives as well as witnesses handle the pain.
