MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency along with the Virtual Alabama partners is hosting the 4th Annual Virtual Alabama School Safety Summit today at the Montgomery Performing Arts center.

This Summit provides educators and law enforcement the ability to come together and discuss and address school safety needs and concerns. It features speakers from the private and public sector and participants include law enforcement officers from agencies throughout Alabama and both public and private schools including colleges.

Governor Bentley will provide the opening remarks and topics that will be covered at the summit ranging from social media and bullying to gang and hate groups. These will lead into building school safety plans.

"Governor Bentley has charged ALEA with implementing an ongoing Active Shooter Strategic Response Plan.  The plan has two key components – Virtual Alabama Safe School System (VAS3) and Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT)" said Secretary of Law Enforcement Spencer Collier.
