LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - A Longview man was arrested Sunday after police say he drove into oncoming traffic at a high rate of speed with a child in his vehicle.

According to his probable cause for arrest statement, 35-year-old Tazille Madison III was booked into the Gregg County Jail on charges of child abandonment or endangering child with bodily injury.

Around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, an officer with the Longview Police Department was dispatched to 410 S. High Street after receiving a call about a female child who appeared to be crawling across the roadway. When the officer arrived, an 11-year-old girl was located near the side of a building.

Police say the girl had severe injuries that were visible when the officer first walked up to her. She had large cuts on her face, arms, chest, legs, side, wrists and shoulders.

The girl told police that she was trying to get away from a man, identified as Madison, who was "driving crazy" while she was in the vehicle with him. The child said she had gotten into the car with Madison, who is a relative of the girl, to go to the store. On the way, they stopped at a house belonging to one of his friends. While stopped at the house, Madison took something that "made him crazy."

When they got back into the vehicle, Madison began driving northbound on High Street at a very high rate of speed. The child told police that he was driving into the oncoming lane, swerving towards oncoming cars in an attempt to hit them. The girl told police several times that he was trying to kill both her and himself.

The girl became so scared for her life that she decided to open the door and jump from the vehicle. The vehicle was traveling around 50 or 60 miles per hour when she jumped. The child told officers that she knew she would die if she stayed in the vehicle with Madison, and the only way she could get away was to jump.

The 11-year-old was transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview. Medical staff informed police that she had facial fractures, a skull fracture, and bleeding in her brain. She was then flown to Children's Medical Center in Dallas for further emergency medical treatment.

Madison was located a short time later after he crashed his vehicle into a residence at 1108 Camillia Lane. He was booked into the Gregg County Jail and later released on $10,000 bond.
