It's a story you saw FIRST on WSFA 12 News. After more than 20 years, Ellen Brooks is out as District Attorney for Montgomery County. She surprised many after suddenly stepping down from the position she's held since 1993.

WSFA 12 News spoke to Brooks about her departure, and got reaction from the man who is taking her place. We'll tell you why she decided to leave coming up on WSFA 12 News at 5 and 6.

Today was a busy day in the Alabama legislature. A committee has voted to ban abortion after a fetal heartbeat is detected, which can happen as early as six weeks into a pregnancy. Raycom political reporter Max Reiss is covering this story, along an anti-abortion rally at 5.

And a Union Springs convenience store employee is lucky to be alive today after an armed robber burst into the store and fired shots at him. The crime was caught on tape and our Bryan Henry is talking to the victim.
