A Limestone County man is charged inconnection with a cockfighting operation.

It happened on Upper Fort Hampton Road inElkmont. Limestone County Sheriff's deputies responded to a tip aboutcockfighting. Investigators said when they got there, two men ran off into thewoods. The men were among at least 15 people, including children, who weregathered around a chicken coop.

Authorities said they found a rooster withlong metal spurs attached to its leg.

Investigators did make contact with theproperty owner, Darwin Todd. He was arrested and charged with keeping a cockpitand is currently free on bond.
