Troy City Council passes resolution approving draft beer sales

TROY, AL (WSFA) -

The Troy City Council has passed a resolution supporting draft beer sales. The resolution must now go to the Alabama Legislature for final approval.

The mayor's office says the approval could come by the end of the week.

The resolution was unopposed though one city councilman was absent for the vote.

The resolution reads:

WHEREAS, the City Council was approached by restaurant owners and a
businessman to enact an ordinance that authorizes draft beer sales, and

WHEREAS, this ability can only be authorized through local legislation passed by the Alabama Legislature, and

WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to have the Legislature enact a similar provision in the City of Troy: and

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Troy, through Jason A Reeves, Mayor, requests Representative Alan Boothe and Senator
Bryan Taylor seek and pass legislation during the 2014 regular session that allows the
City Council of the City of Troy to authorize the sale of on premises draft beer within the
City limits of the City of Troy:
